We arrived at Sick Kids for a four day surgery stay. After a year of trying to do everything to avoid it, Claire will be receiving her g tube.
We have gone through some very tough times where Claire would stop eating and drinking for a week at a time, and during those periods she becomes so weak and dehydrated that she stops talking and walking.
Even though she is eating really well now, we know on hard days she gets too tired and doesn’t eat enough, and she hasn’t gained any weight but continues to grow taller, so she needs a little help.
Our hope is that with a top-up during the day she can continue to enjoy all the foods she loves without the pressure of eating all the calories, and this will make her gain weight and get some strength so that she can continue to amaze us with her ability to walk, climb stairs and ride a horse.
The surgery went really well, she was able to tolerate feeds at a really good rate and we were home by day three. How she continues to always be smiling with whatever she must go through, she really is a warrior and we couldn’t be more proud.
