When you are dealing with a neurodegenerative disease, its so important to do everything you can to make sure our kids keep all the skills they have, because once they are gone, they are gone forever.
Its really important to Mark and I that we keep Claire’s legs strong so that we can keep her walking and let her have the independence for as long as possible. As the disease progresses its sometimes easier to keep her home where she is happy and the safest, that’s why we purchased this Springfree trampoline for the backyard.
As you can tell from the pictures it’s a hit. We look forward to lots of days bouncing around on this big thing!
We are also planning for when walking starts to become an issue for her and that’s why we have started trying out gait trainers. With the help of our Occupational and Physiotherapist we will be borrowing a few until we find the right fit for Claire. Its important to have her use to one before she needs it on an everyday basis.
Even though we know this is what’s best for Claire, its hard to see our four-year-old in such large pieces of bulky equipment. She shouldn’t have to worry about having things to help her walk, she should be trying out a bicycle with training wheels and running around the yard without a care in the world.
